A Bit of This and a Bit of That

We headed out to the library this afternoon to return books and to pick up more. It's been a changeable day, weatherwise and our walk was no exception. When we left, the sun was shining. A couple minutes later, when we turned onto the little lane, it was grey. As I stopped to look at this scene, it started spitting rain.
Then Bill pointed out the rainbow behind me.
The sun came out enough to create shadows.
At the end of the lane, we turned onto the road and there were more rainbows around.
We got to the library and picked up our books. I was happy to get the latest Fintan O'Toole. I have admired his work since I discovered it shortly after we got to Ireland.
We decided to walk home the long way, so we took a different lane. It got more grey with each step and I stopped to take off my sunglasses. Then the light rain started. I looked back to see if I could see Mt Errigal and I could, but just barely.
It was a nice walk. It's nice to be able to do our errands while we enjoy the scenery.

Thanks, Vicki!

Lovely photos Shari.

That book looks fascinating. I once tried to read an enormous book on the complete history of Ireland but, in the end, it was far too scholarly and I was unable to get halfway through. Your book makes me want to try again but with something more accessible.

Ohhhh, those rainbows. Hope you made some wishes and they get granted!

Really nice walk and good things to do and look forward to <3

That's neat that you had a rainbow just right there behind you like that.

You know I had to smile when I saw your Mt had taken to hiding a bit... Mountains seem to like to do that, no matter where they are in the world. =)

I hear ya, Linda! Before we moved to Ireland, Bill and I started listening to a podcast called something like, A Short History of Ireland in 15 Minutes.' Each day was a short history narrative. We ended up getting lost and trying to remember which group washed ashore in their boats with their hatchets and tried to gain power. In the end, we gave up. Then we saw the book in the library after we got here, but we left it on the shelf! Fintan O'Toole has been very helpful and informative for me. It's a complicated history, as I suppose they all are, and complicated by the colonization by the British and the partition that created Northern Ireland and left them in the UK, which still causes problems today. I take it in chunks and have been focusing more on the last 150 years or so, although I do want to go back at some point and read about what happened earlier.

iris, the end of one arc seemed to be in someone's back garden, so maybe they found the pot o' gold.

Joy--yes, Errigal likes to play hide and seek and the clouds help! :-)

:-)
Also forgot to say how romantic I think the first pic is.
I don´t read novels but I imagine some happy family once lived there.

Fun to imagine what might have been :-)

Dear Shari,
the weather was really changeable, but you didn't let it get you down and took a long walk. The reward was several rainbows and a book that you are happy about!
Hugs and all the best,
Traude

Oh yes, changeable weather is the norm here. And rain. People just go on with their day--sure, what else could we do anyway :-D You're right--the rewards are quite nice!

Rereading this post it reminds me of something I have noticed a few times. Did you ever think that it sort of feels like rainbows follow you? (Much like the sun across the water?) Sometimes they can be so close that you feel like you can find where they land if you go looking. I don't know if anyone has ever seen it touch the ground and taken pictures of the spot but that is a kind of mystery about them.

Maybe people have been out looking for all the pots of gold at the end ;-) I haven't found one, but if I ever do, I'll post a pic! :-D

Well luckily you guys get so much more rain there so I wouldn't doubt you'd find the end of a few rainbows for a moment! I will definitely look forward to whatever pictures you take even if the gold doesn't seem visible in the images you send ;) (Maybe only the people who find it, actually get to see it?)

I'll keep looking 🙂🌈
