Last night, Bill was listening to the radio feed of the Boston Red Sox game on the Major League Baseball site. It was an early game so I was not yet in the other room listening to something else--at least not for the first half of the game. At every break they play the same old commercials. One of them was about how the time has arrived to welcome fall with a houseful of new furniture. I was reminded of ads on the radio here, heard during our first few months in Ireland, about how there was still time to have a new kitchen installed before Christmas.
Who knew? All this time I've been doing quite a good job of welcoming autumn and celebrating Christmas and not once did this involve new furniture or a new kitchen. Ah, marketing.

It is really crazy how some people change their furniture like it is part of their wardrobe. I have a lot of old pieces and have given my kids many of them over the years. I did have to buy a new table when we moved into the condo because my old one was too big. I gave it to my daughter that has a huge dining room.
I miss the 'old days' sometimes when life was easier in so many ways-although the work was harder. Hugs- Diana

I know what you mean about moving requiring some purchases. We've been in the new place a month and we didn't need to buy anything. We did choose to buy a couple of large mugs at a charity shop, though. We didn't need them--there are a gazillion mugs here--but they're all on the small side and we like a big mug of tea :-)
How wonderful that you were able to give your tale to your daughter! Lots of memories for her--I bet she treasures it!
I like my holidays one at a time, not even thinking about Christmas yet. I will after Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Given the way I celebrate, which doesn't involve shopping at all, my holiday season runs from the autumnal equinox to the new year. This is partly a result of when I was making a lot of things and mailing them from Alaska. I had to start early to get things in the mail on time. I suppose it's the same if one wants to remodel their kitchen before Christmas--they'd have to start early.
The only time I ever did furniture at Christmas was when my brother and I splurged to get my parents the dining room cabinet they had been wanting and were never willing to spend money on to buy. They had been thinking about it for years. Otherwise, furniture is not really a Christmas thing, is it?

What a lovely gift for your parents! I bet it was a happy surprise and they loved it!
I can remember many (many) years back we did order a new settee which promised delivery by Christmas. We duly ordered it, and it was delivered in time for Christmas.
Then came the January sales it had been reduced!!!
Oh well, at least our guests had the comfort and enjoyment of sitting on it over the Christmas season.
Anyway, I am presently enjoying Autumn, our weather has been very nice for Autumnal walks.
