It's been an interesting couple of weeks here. Those of you who read Bill's blog will know that he was in hospital for 10 days. He came home Wednesday, recovered from the pneumonia, but tired and with an aversion to gravy. Our Thanksgiving meal will be looking a little different this year 😏Having had some form of gravy every night for supper whilst he was in hospital, he says he's had enough for the rest of his life. Of course, what the meal consists of doesn't matter. The fact that we have much to be thankful for does.
While he was in hospital, I developed a cough. Nothing really unusual in that as it's something that happens once every year or two. It's been a couple years since I had it, but I knew what was coming. Trying to lie down and sleep with the cough was pointless, so I sat up all night and slept in short snippets as I was able. This went on for a week, so I was not functioning very well. I must say, when I was young, I would never have been able to imagine how much I could crave sleep. Live and learn. Anyway, my days were spent doing the bare minimum, talking to Bill, and coughing. I couldn't read or stitch--too tired and unable to focus. I found myself wishing for my regular boring old life. Then I reminded myself how great it is to have a regular boring old life that I was eager to return to and not one I was trying to escape from. A few nights ago, I was able to sleep in a modified horizontal position. It was still broken sleep, but it was great to be able to stretch out and give my body a change from sitting. I slept a bit better last night and, if past experience is anything to go by, I expect to be sleeping better as the nights go on. One fine day, I'll wake up and feel rested.
In the meantime, I have been able to read these past couple days and am deep into a really excellent Christmas mystery. I will be starting to catch up on the blog posts from you that I've missed over the past week.
Yesterday, Bill and I went to Donegal town to do a library run. We both had books in--in my case, one that I put on hold on Halloween last year! When the books come in, we usually have two weeks to pick them up. In this case, that was up last week. Had I been able, I would've gone to pick up the books for both of us, but I wasn't. Our wonderful librarian told me not to worry about the books. She'd keep them there a little longer and I should just come in whenever it was convenient. She told me she knows my routine and knows I'll be in, so she's happy to keep them a little longer. When we went yesterday, I had a stack of books to return and it was kind of heavy, so I put them in a backpack with wheels that a friend gave us over a decade ago. It's really handy, but it can be loud. The librarian must've heard me coming, because she appeared at the door, took the pack from me and brought it inside. She lifted it up and laid it on something so I wouldn't have to bend down to empty it, she put the new books inside it, and she carried it out and handed it to me after I'd gotten down the few steps out of the building. She offered to carry it down the steep-ish hill for me as well, but I said I'd be OK. I was so touched by her kindness.
The past couple of weeks have been something of a blur, but it's nice to be moving towards normal again. I hope all is well with you and you're enjoying whatever life is throwing your way at the moment. I'm reminded once again to savor the small moments.

Oh! Shari! What a couple of weeks you have both had! I am so sorry that both of you are dealing with health issues. I am glad that Bill is home and recovering and I hope you bounce back quickly.
How nice to have a librarian that 'knows' you and looks out for you. There are a lot of unsung mini-heroes in this world and she sounds like one of them.
We are onto another battle for John's health. He is having cancer surgery (kidney) in mid-November here. We are also waiting to get into Mayo for a specialized cancer surgery in his mouth. Life has certainly been a medical journey for us once again.
Prayers for you and for Bill, my friend. Hopefully, by Christmas you will both be hale and hearty and Bill will be able to tolerate gravy. lol. Hugs from WI- Diana
I am keeping you and John in my thoughts and sending my hopes for successful outcomes as you navigate these latest health challenges. May you both get what you need during this difficult time. You've been through so much through the years. Gentle hugs, Diana.
