It's been warm here. We haven't had the extreme heat that other parts of Europe have been experiencing, but it's been warm enough that we've been under a yellow warning for high heat for most of this week. The warning expires tomorrow morning. Yesterday was the hottest day at around 30C (about 86F). This is very hot for here. As someone who doesn't care for temperatures beyond the mid-teens, this was unpleasant, but not horrible. I've experienced hotter days. I've also had much cooler days and yesterday, Bill sent me a photo reminding me of one of them.
It was about -42C (-45F) on this day in downtown Fairbanks at the start of the Yukon Quest Sled Dog Race. As you can see, I had my coffee. 😃 I was quite warm and toasty in the parka my Inupiaq friend had made for me. This photo landed in my inbox at the perfect time-- it was oppressively humid and very stuffy as a thunderstorm was about to roll in. It lasted for about half an hour. We could have more storms today, but it's not supposed to be as hot and although it's a bit humid, it's fairly pleasant, with a slight breeze, plenty of cloud cover, and the birds singing away outside. Ah, we've just heard a rumble of thunder. If you're sweltering in a heatwave, I hope the snowy scene and the thought of -42/-45 cools you off just a little bit. I hope it cools down soon and that you have ways to make your home environment less uncomfortable. In shower news (or perhaps non-news), no progress has occurred. Plumber Guy hasn't shown up all week, and there was no communication from him until yesterday when he said he'll be here tonight. We'll see. No idea what's going on with PVC guy. F continues to search for someone who will actually show up and do the job. It's rather ridiculous.
Whatever the weather is like in your part of the world, have a wonderful weekend!

There was a time when tradespeople were happy to have work and were reliable, even seeking referrals based on customer satisfaction. Judging from the work I have had done at the house recently that still seems to be the case here. Does unreliability afflict the Irish tradesman unduly? Do they take on more than they can handle? Do they practice lying as an art? It’s all a bit of a puzzle.you will become a maestra of the sponge bath, Shari!
I've heard about that heat, but luckily it's not as hot for you as it is some places. But like you, I prefer it chillier. No cold, but cooler. I must say for us JUne hasn't been too bad- not a lot of humidity which is worst! And sorry to read about your shower situation-still.
I think there is a tendency to just say yes to things and then blow them off, but to be fair, I have experienced the same kinds of situations in places considered rural in the US. It is about who you know and that kind of thing, but it's a widespread problem. I find it quite interesting on some level.
We had a big adjustment when we moved to Maine, having lived in dry places for 15 years. We had a 100° day with high humidity and that was a struggle! I'm grateful that it doesn't get so hot here--at least not yet.
Brrr yes it does look cold in that photograph.
I think our heatwave is now waning ... thank goodness.
I really do not like hot weather ... made a salad this evening which was perfect for hot weather :)
Have a good weekend and fingers crossed you may soon see a plumber.
All the best Jan
I'm so glad for you that the heat is leaving. Yes, salad is perfect! The plumber showed up yesterday! Enjoy the cooler weather!
I hope Plumber Guy showed up. We've been relatively cool -- high of 70 yesterday, but supposedly up to the 90s by next weekend. We'll see. I'm usually OK with heat, even with no air con, but it's harder if it gets super humid. Always easier at the lake though. If it's too hot, just jump in! Hang in there.
I have a pretty high tolerance for cold and almost none for heat--LOL Plumber did show up. I don't think he's done, but there has been progress.
