Several months ago, a friend--a retired florist--asked me what kind of flower I would be. I replied that I've always thought of myself as a dandelion. She was taken aback--not the answer she was expecting. But dandelions really are my favorite flower. They're tough. Knock them down and they keep coming back. When they pop up in the middle of a manicured lawn or flower bed, they remind us that we can try to sculpt everything into the form we want, but nature will have her say in the end. They're unruly and don't conform to human constructs and expectations. For those that appreciate dandelions, they can have a lot of benefits. For those that don't, they're just annoying. I've always felt connected to dandelions. And as I get older, I'm even more dandelion than ever.

I am very proud, Shari, to March alongside you in the “Hooray for Dandelions” parade. They are beautiful, tough, always beat the odds, bounce back from adversity, and piss off the establishment - all the qualities I hold dear in my friends. How one little yellow flower got to be so hated is beyond my ability to understand.
I do like your definition of dandelions and you've got it right!
They are a beautiful colour and we can make wishes with them ... I can remember making quite a few in my younger days :)
Of course the blown seeds just went to creating more dandelions.
Dandelion wine was enjoyed and now too dandelion in salads.
Wishing you happy April days.
All the best Jan
The establishment definitely needs pissing off!
Yes! Blowing the puffy white seeds everywhere and watching them float through the air was fun :-) I've read that in some places, dandelions are an especially welcome food source in spring when it's too early for other kinds of harvesting. Hope you're having a great day, Jan.
You are so right about dandelions. I am probably one also (in reality) but I never really thought about what flower I would be. Lilacs, they are my favorite but the season is so short. The same is true for irises. Roses, but they require too much pampering....I'm going to have to think about this one. I think I have to be sure I don't confuse what I like with what I am. Hope April is treating you well.
My friend wanted me to be a bird of paradise. I said OK. But I'm still a dandelion at heart :-)
