This morning I woke up, looked at the clock, saw that it was 8:30, and groaned. I would have to get up. I didn't want to get up. In fact, I would have been very happy to fall right back to sleep for another hour or so, as my body was desperately urging me to do. But we had an appointment at the pharmacy for our COVID booster jabs, so I talked myself into rising. I did rise, but I drew the line at shining. That was a bridge too far at 8:30 am. I did perk up a little as I talked myself into functionality, remembering that my book was being delivered today and was downstairs waiting for me. We did what we needed to do, went to the pharmacy, waited a few minutes, got our jabs, and were asked to wait for 5 minutes just to make sure all would be well. I thought, but did not say, that while I didn't think the vaccine would cause me any immediate distress, the overpowering smell from the candles and other intensely scented things just might. Bill went first and then the pharmacist was helping someone who walked in before he got to me, so he had more than 5 minutes, but I couldn't make it that long. I sat there for a couple minutes and left. It was a relief to get outside into the brisk and breezy morning.
I'd left my book downstairs when we exited the building and eagerly grabbed it when we returned home.

I could have slept later today too. Those books sound interesting but maybe some heavy reading. Thanks for reminding me about the Father Brown series. I read a few of those years ago, and they would be interesting to read again. Is your husband enjoying them?
Erika--the Epicurus book is very short and jargon-free. It's meant to be a very general intro to the his ideas and it was a very interesting, enjoyable, and quick read. I don't know how many there are of those as I could only find that one in the library and the Stoics on the library e-book site. The history of philosophy book is also meant for general readers, but it's definitely not the kind of book I'd want to read like I would a more narrative book. Another reason to have my own copy instead of a library book! I plan to read it a little bit each day, so it'll take a while. Yesterday was the intro and it was very well done.
I just picked up the Father Brown because Bill was finishing my last library book and I wanted something to tide me over until he handed it over to me, which he has now done. I'll be setting Brown aside and starting that today.
Hope you have a great day!
I am up at around 5:00 every morning, Shari, so I am feeling very smug about my early rising and I shall feel especially so when I witness the sun rising! Your books do sound fascinating and we all need to expand our knowledge of western philosophy, and chart the path of its perversion and misapplication in modern times. You have reminded me that Miriam and I should hie ourselves off to the pharmacy for our COVID booster shot (no appointment required). Cloying candles, synthetic fragrance and Christmas music droning on and on not required! All the best - David
You're very welcome to hang out with the early birds and look for worms with them, David π In summer, the sun rises just after 4 here and it's not unusual for this night owl to still be awake. My ideal is going to sleep between 2&3 and rising between 9&10. Since I didn't get to sleep until after 3, it was too early to get up. But I survived!
Enjoy your day!
There’s the difference then. I generally go to bed around 9:30, read for a half hour and then turn out the light! Literally and figuratively!
Whatever works π At 9:30 I'm just settling in for a few hours of stitching/reading/music/audiobook/podcast/tea, cocoa, mocha enjoyment!
Mornings aren't really my thing π
I'm not a morning person (unless I have to be) so well done on getting up and getting on as you needed to!
I do enjoy reading about the books you choose... they certainly provide food for thought.
All the best Jan
PS Stay safe as Storm Darragh moves towards us across the Atlantic, I think the winds are going to be very, very strong.
Thanks, Jan! Please stay safe, too. They've now upgraded our warning to red for a time (for the wind), so we'll see how it goes. They switched on the town Christmas lights last weekend--we'll see if they stay up!
