Did They Really Think This Would Work?

One of the Irish news sites I read had a story today about two guys (Idiot 1 and Idiot 2) showing up at the post office to collect a pension payment. There's a twist, though. The idiots were propping up a guy between them. It was the middle guy whose pension they were trying to collect. A staff member at the post office was concerned about Middle Guy and inquired about his condition. Idiot 1 and Idiot 2 dropped him and fled while Middle Guy fell to the floor. Staff checked on Middle Guy and discovered he was deceased. Gardai (the police) are investigating.

RIP to the deceased.

Beyond the incredible disrespect to the person who died, this story boggles my mind for a few reasons, not least of which is the fact that they apparently believed this would work. Idiot 1 and Idiot 2 sat around with the deceased Middle Guy and hatched a plan to get some cash. At no time did either one of them have second thoughts or wonder aloud whether this was really a good idea or ponder whether anyone would notice that Middle Guy was not breathing. This is certainly not the finest example of humanity on display.

Oh my gosh! That is the most terrible thing I think I've ever heard (probably not but at the moment it seems like it would/should be). I wonder if there were surveillance cameras so that they can catch Idiot 1 and Idiot 2!

It is pretty awful! There probably were CCTV cameras--they seem to be everywhere!

It boggles the mind.

Goodness that's shocking. Just... beyond the pale really. Who hoists around someone's body like a free-ticket to a bender or something. Did they ever say the motive or if they were caught? Wonder if they were drunk/high, that sort of reasoning isn't 'on spare' for people in that state usually. Truly puzzling and just so so wrong.

They turned themselves in. I think they said he was alive when they entered the post office and he died while in there. I guess we will hear more when they go to court.

Oh, well that's good that they will try to figure-out what the whole situation was. I think we like to believe that we don't associate with anyone capable of that sort of behavior so for police to discover any info as to how all of that happened would probably be good for the public to understand. I hope they wont put excuses behind 'boys will be boys' and 'they were having a pint' or something so innocent. I mean i suppose he might have been alive and said 'hey lets go get my pension we can get another round' and died en route but it just seems so unlikely because who upon seeing their mate 'that far gone'(to the point of having to carry him in) doesn't call for A & E help instead?
